Addressing the Injury Epidemic in Junior Volleyball

At first glance the combined high school & junior volleyball schedule appears to be very daunting. The high school season starts in early to mid-August and normally teams are training twice a day for at least two to three weeks. What Makes a Good Coach?

As I now prepare to enter my 36th year of coaching volleyball, I am often asked about my experience as a volleyball player. Growing up I played football in the fall, basketball in the winter and baseball in the spring and summer. The one sport that I never played was volleyball. In fact, I did not see my first volleyball match until I was 24 years old.

In my case while I never played Volleyball, the sport I did play growing up (American football) was a great substitute in preparing me to be a volleyball coach.

Linear models also provide a "real" long term development model where progressive training cycles can be implemented without fear of having to change in mid-cycle or mid-season.
